Encontrábame yo en Monterr(…) durante el verano del 200(…) puesto que el doctor familiar me había recomendado evitar el crudo invierno de Meri(…) en algún lugar tropical y cercano al mar. Durante mi estadía tuve el agrado de conocer a un caballero llamado Saturnino Higgins.
Era Higgins un hombre taciturno y solitario que disfrutaba de la meditación. Tanto él como yo odiábamos tener amigos, hablar con extraños y cantar en público, y probablemente por tener tantas cosas en común, terminamos por trabar una excelente amistad.
Saturnino Higgins era un hombre preclaro, dueño de una inteligencia asombrosa superior a la media y en contables ocasiones tuve oportunidad de atestiguar sus increíbles dotes de percepción y deducción; era capaz de calcular en segundos el monto de deducciones que un obrero tendría que pagar por sus percepciones quincenales. A pesar de estar acostumbrado a sus increíbles manifestaciones de inteligencia, una vez quedé atónito ante su poder deductivo.
Nos encontrábamos caminando de madrugada por las alegres calles de C. Salazar y Juárez en completo silencio cuando de repente volteó hacia mí y me dijo: -Fernando Maximiliano de Habsburgo fue emperador de México y no un miembro de New Kids on the Block. Yo que mentalmente no lograba recordar si algún integrante de dicho grupo se llamaba Maximiliano dije casi automáticamente: -Por supuesto… Pero fue entonces que me di cuenta de que no había formulado la pregunta en voz alta.
-Higgins, lo que ha sucedido excede mi comprensión. ¿Cómo es posible que supiera exactamente lo que estaba pensando?
-Muy fácil amigo Phineas: fue el perro de hace 5 cuadras.
-¡Pero eso es imposible!
-En absoluto. Le explicaré, para que todo sea más claro, el modo en que a partir del curso de sus meditaciones pude averiguar la pregunta que se formulaba mentalmente:
Hace 5 cuadras, usted tropezó con un perro callejero y éste por poco lo muerde; tuvo que correr por dos cuadras para poder perder al animal. En el transcurso de su huída, cruzó la avenida Madero de forma bastante imprudente y un automovilista por poco lo atropella, para poder esquivarlo, tuvo que hacer una brusca maniobra al volante que provocó que perdiera el control y embistiera a una familia que iba cruzando por el semáforo; Noté que cuando esto pasaba, usted parecía recordar algún paso de baile. Fue cuando el conductor de un camión de pasajeros por estarlo viendo extrañado de tan raras piruetas que usted hacía, no se fijó en el accidente de más adelante y se estrelló de lleno contra una pipa de gas causando una explosión. Entonces usted volteó la mirada hacia la gente en llamas que luchaba por salir del autobús y se alejó corriendo mientras gritaba algo que me pareció entender como “step by step…uuh baby”. Cuando lo alcancé, se encontraba platicando con un travestido en la calle Carlos Salazar que le decía que se llamaba “Yonatan”. Noté que su rostro se iluminó y nos alejamos rumbo a la calle Juárez. En el transcurso de la caminata me percaté de que hacía movimientos con sus dedos como contando, levantaba uno, dos, tres y cuatro y luego se detenía y volvía a empezar, hasta que llegamos a Juárez; volteó a ver el nombre de la calle, se quedó pensativo un momento hasta que volvió a hacer cuentas con los dedos hasta llegar al 5, sin embargo parecía no estar seguro y volvía a empezar. Mientras contaba observé que movía los labios como pronunciando nombres sin decirlos en voz alta.
Fue ahí que respondí a su pregunta sobre si Maximiliano había sido miembro de New Kids on the Block.
-¡Es asombroso! Pero sigo sin comprender como llegó a dicha conclusión Higgins…
-Es muy sencillo: Cuando tuvo que huir del perro, comenzó a correr y a brincar de forma bastante ridícula y graciosa; movimientos semejantes a los de un grupo musical, en ese momento el camión estalló y fue inevitable que los pasajeros en llamas le recordaran el documental que vimos en televisión hace algunos días y que trataba sobre la histeria masiva que provocan algunos grupos musicales. Cuando se fue corriendo gritando “Step by step. Uhhh baby” supe que en efecto pensaba en esos grupos y en New Kids on the block en particular. Cuando lo alcancé se encontraba platicando con un travestido llamado “Yonatan”, lo cual le recordó el nombre de uno de los integrantes de dicha banda. Fue cuando noté que hacía cuentas mentales hasta llegar a cuatro; supuse que contabilizaba los nombres de los integrantes del grupo y que no lograba recordar al quinto miembro. Cuando llegamos a la avenida Juárez, observó el nombre de la calle y comenzó de nuevo a contar. Pude observar que cada vez que levantaba un dedo murmuraba un nombre; en primer lugar me percaté que movía los labios formando tres sílabas, obviamente “Jonathan” ya que era el nombre del travestido que le había recordado en primer lugar a un miembro de dicha banda; en los otros tres conteos murmuraba palabras de dos sílabas, y en el quinto puesto murmuró una palabra de 5 sílabas. Gracias a esto y a que observó por un momento el nombre de la calle Juárez, pude suponer que pensaba en el nombre de un personaje relacionado al presidente liberal y por las 5 sílabas adiviné que no podía ser otro que “Maximiliano”
-No deja de sorprenderme Higgins. Exactamente fue de ese modo que pensé que Maximiliano había sido un miembro de New Kids on the Block. Recordaba por supuesto a Jonathan, a Joey, a Donnie y a Danny, pero no podía recordar el quinto nombre de tan fabulosa agrupación…
-Bueno, en todo caso, el nombre que busca en su memoria ochentera es “Jordan”…
Esta pequeña anécdota podrá ayudar al lector a darse una idea de los increíbles dotes de mi amigo y a comprender de mejor manera la grandísima utilidad que tuvieron dichas capacidades para resolver el misterioso caso de Blanche Monnier.
Algunos días después de el anterior relato llegué a la residencia de Saturnino Higgins con un hondo pesar.
-Higgins, no tengo la foto a la mano, pero quiero que observe bien este dibujo que acabo de terminar en el trayecto a su casa y dígame si identifica al personaje central.
-Bueno amigo Phineas, aunque la anatomía no es del todo perfecta, puedo afirmar casi sin temor a equivocarme que no es otra que una representación casi exacta de la infame foto tomada durante el caso de secuestro de Blanche Monnier en 1901.
-Ese es precisamente el problema Higgins: que yo pensaba que se trataba de un secuestro y resulta que todo se trató de una crisis de misticismo y anorexia.
-¿Y quién le ha dicho semejante cosa?
-Una lectora de mi página. Ha dicho que según sus investigaciones: “Blanca tuvo una infancia feliz a los lados de su hermano Marcel. Después de cortos estudios a la Unión cristiana, tuvo crisis de misticismo y quiso convertirse en religiosa. Buscando la soledad, se volvió anoréxica. Su reclusión era voluntaria y no hubo nunca secuestro. Tras una fiebre perniciosa, hacia su vigesimotercer año, hundió en la locura y permaneció en adelante confinada en su habitación. Cuando se descubrió, ya estaba en un estado de suciedad rechazando, no pesaba más que 25 kilos 400 y su cabellera negra él caía entre los muslos. Blanca se transportó al Hospital de Poitiers donde se segó. Ocupada durante un año, se restablece físicamente pero recuperó nunca la razón.”
-¿Pesaba “más” de 25 kilos 400?
-Creo que se trata de una traducción automática de internet. El original está en francés.
-Bueno, no le de importancia.
-Pero es que me llamó también “mentiroso” por haber hablado sobre “el secuestro” de Blanche Monnier…
-Y me imagino que lo que desea es refutar su fuente para no quedar como un completo idiota…Bueno, seque sus lágrimas y analicemos detenidamente el caso…
Todos sabemos que en ocasiones como esta, no podemos obtener una verdad absoluta a partir de un solo testimonio. Lo correcto es investigar diversas fuentes y sacar un consenso general que nos permita sacar una conclusión propia que si bien no sea verídica, si sea mayormente aceptada como “verdad”. Pondré un ejemplo para que comprenda:
Si yo le preguntara sobre “El asesino de Cumbres” usted respondería: “Diego Santoy”. Sin pensarlo mucho asume que Diego Santoy y no otro es el “Asesino de Cumbres”. Pero existen otras versiones menos populares que apuntan a que “El asesino” no es “Él” sino “Ella”, en este caso, Erika Peña, hermana de las víctimas. Otra versión indica que se trata de “Los asesinos” Erika Peña y Diego Santoy en equipo; e incluso hay versiones en que no se trata de ninguno de los dos y que el asesino fue alguien ajeno y todavía en libertad.
Podrán existir dudas sobre la autoría del asesinato, pero para fines legales y para los medios de comunicación, “el asesino de Cumbres” es y será Diego Santoy, a menos que un vuelco en las investigaciones indique lo contrario. Cosa que usted y yo sabemos, nunca ocurrirá. Así que lo mejor que se puede hacer es dar como “cierto” la opinión y los sentimientos generales del caso, ya que aunque no estamos seguros de que Diego Santoy sea culpable, podemos afirmar que tampoco fue totalmente inocente.
Lo mismo podría decirse del caso Monnier. Aunque es difícil conseguir información sobre un hecho acontecido en 1901, no todo en el universo es Google y el caso se cita en algunas fuentes escritas. Una de ellas es el libro “Crónica negra del siglo XX” en donde se asegura que se trató de un secuestro aunque no indica las causas. La hemeroteca del New York Times, recoge la historia y señala que la madre de Blanche fue acusada formalmente de secuestro y que murió en prisión; el libro “No juzguéis” (1930) de Andre Gide enumera una gran cantidad de testimonios y la secuencia de investigaciones judiciales que se dieron en torno al trágico caso de Poitiers. En todos ellos se hablan de “un secuestro” y sólo en algunas fuentes como el libro “L’histoire véridique de la séquestrée de Poitiers” de Jean-Marie Augustin se maneja la versión del misticismo y la anorexia.
Con todas estas versiones, ¿cómo llegar a una verdad aproximada de lo que realmente sucedió con Blanche Monnier? Lo mejor es observar los detalles y utilizar un juicio moral sobre las circunstancias que rodearon el caso.
Para empezar, Blanche Monnier fue encontrada encerrada en una habitación oscura y sórdida, con sus ventanas clausuradas y en medio de una inmundicia degradante. Cuentan los testigos que el olor era insoportable. Cuando se interrogó a su hermano, mencionó que él visitaba a su hermana regularmente y que nunca se percató del olor y que si Blanche se encontraba encerrada era porque sufría de una enfermedad mental. Cuando se le preguntó porqué nunca llevaron a Blanche a un hospital en donde sería atendida de mejor manera, no dudó en culpar a su madre y afirmó que en su casa, se hacía lo que ella ordenaba.
Si Blanche Monnier sufría de anorexia, entonces ¿cómo se puede explicar el hecho de que en el hospital después de su encierro, aceptó comer y recuperó peso rápidamente? Si estaba loca y sufría de una fiebre de misticismo religioso ¿Porqué su familia nunca le proporcionó ayuda psiquiátrica o al menos, mejores condiciones de vida?
En este caso, como el de Diego Santoy, lo mejor amigo Phineas, es aceptar el juicio popular y pensar que Blanche Monnier fue en efecto secuestrada por su madre, ya que si no fue culpable, al menos no fue tampoco inocente…

Ja ja ja ja… changos, la moraleja, perfecto documentarse cuando te quede duda, pero es mejor ir al fondo del asunto antes de argumentar… lamentablemente internet es un medio facilmente manipulable, cada quien puede manejar la informacion a su antojo, es mejor consultar en varias fuentes antes de actuar y generar alguna polemica, lo malo, por lo comun las personas se dejan llevar con cualquier argumento y toda la crebilidad por la que luchas se pierde en un suspiro…

Bueno dejando de lado la polemica de Blanche Monnier.. en mi rancho sucedio lo siguiente: un regidor del PRI lo asesinaron en su domicilio, ya saben crimen pasional pues siempre se supo sus gustos gays, total que pescaron un chavito de buen ver y lo metieron al bote. Todo mundo lo conose y sabe que es un chavo tranquilo. A lo que voy es que siempre fue un secreto a voces que el hijo del alcalde fue.. pero como es el poder y la influencia..nunca paso nada..al tiempo declararon al «checo» inocente y lo desaparecieron del rancho… obviamente el caso quedo impune, y el hijo del alcalde se acaba de casar :S que asco…

Saludos, el post esta bien, viajado como casi todo lo de aca pero chingon. La aclaracion sobre que tipo de «debate» esperaba en os comentarios es buena aunque creo que no se tomo en cuenta :S. Al respecto puedo decir que es bastante real el punto que tocas, y eso de «ya que si no fue culpable, al menos no fue tampoco inocente…» no tiene perdida, es algo asi como que en este nuestro pais todos somos culpables hasta que podamos demostrar lo contrario. Una ultima cosa: mencionan que el relato se basa en uno de Poe (no leo a Poe) a mi me recuerda a uno de Sherlock Holmes, sobre todo la deduccion de Higgins.. ¿ando muy perdido?

There is one geographic clue I have not addressed in years:::Uranus, a planet tilted 90 degrees on its axis. I’ve recently stated how the gods will use the Japanese as role models to the Chinese as China becomes increasingly Westernized. Expect a cultural movement celebrating Japanese culture in decades prior, much as we witnessed in the west in the past.

Recall how Americans so frequently laughed at the French for their lack of military response when confronted by the Nazi army. To resist would have been suicide. Their reaction was appropriate. The opposite would be one as we witnessed in Vietnam. These are morbidly disfavored Asians and take great pride in their resistance. The gods DO use their pride in resistance by positioning in appropriate temptation, ensuring minimal sucess.
If events transpire I recommend you respond like the French and not like the Vietnamese. If this is a west coast event it may not have serious effect but if it is nationwide the United States will lose over a hundred million in the South and midwest.
